Notre Dame says 7-year capital campaign raised 2 BILLION DOLLARS!

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame says its seven-year “Spirit of Notre Dame” capital campaign raised more than $2 billion for the private school.

The South Bend Tribune reports the $2.014 billion the campaign that ended June 30 received from more than 120,000 donors is nearly double that of its last capital fundraising campaign, which ended in 2000.

School President the Rev. John I. Jenkins called the amount collected a “landmark accomplishment.”

Notre Dame officials say the school is now the first university without a medical school to raise more than $2 billion in a traditional seven-year capital campaign. The goal was $1.5 billion, but that amount was exceeded by more than $500 million.

The money will go toward a host of projects as well as financial aid and fellowships.
